Other Art: Fan Art
Aside from The Donoverse, I sometimes like to dabble in Fan Art; specifically of Anime and western feature animation from the '80s & '90s
Friday Night At Pizza Planet
Back in June of 2024; I had created a fan art poster of different [human] characters from Animated Movies of the '80s & '90s called Friday Night at Pizza Planet. While not part of the Donoverse, I did feel like the poster was a good tribute to the films of the time. It did also greatly Inform how I could approach a "Look-and-Find" style of artwork in the future
For this picture, I wanted to depict these characters in a happy normal situation; namely enjoying a friday night of fun at an arcade.
Characters and Refrences Featured (Top to Bottom, Left to Right):
Hans & Clara (The Nutcracker Prince; 1990) playing Pac Man together

Anne Marie (All Dogs Go To Heaven, 1989) getting ready to play Dragons Lair (1983) while eating a slice of Pizza

Gymnastics Class
I made this piece of fan art a while back in July, right in between finishing my Friday Night at Pizza Planet Poster and beginning my book The Hoverboard Girls.
In this poster, we have Robyn Starling (from Tom & Jerry The Movie) finishing an excellent gymnastics routine while her instructor Odette (from The Swan Princess), the students, and the Instructor's assistants cheer on her finale.
The interesting thing about the cast in this poster is that it is not only a cross over like Pizza Planet, but it is an east-meets-west crossover featuring anime and western animation characters.
On the western animation side; The students cheering on [from left to right] are made up of Penny (The Rescuer, 1977), Lilo (Lilo & Stitch, 2002), Jenny Foxworth (Oliver & Company, 1988), Anne Marie (All Dogs Go To Heaven, 1989), Rosy (Balto, 1995) and Jane (Return To Neverland, 2002).
Meanwhile, on the anime side, the teaching assistants consist of Maya Kitajima (from the 1984 Anime adaptation of Glass Mask) on the left, and Hikari Kamijou (from the 1988 Anime Hikari no Densetsu, whom she is an actual gymnast in) on the right. Oddly enough, Both Maya & Hikari are wearing Leotards that they do actually wear in the series, while the other leotards worn by the characters were improvised (Lilo is a bit of an exception, since her leotard is based off of the design of her swimsuit)
This piece was also a bit of an inside joke on composer Henry Mancini; who composed both the musical score for Tom & Jerry The Movie, as well as being attributed to the iconic "Nadia's Theme", which was played on the Wide World Of Sports for a montage of Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci's routines. Now the history of this song is extremely complicated (especially when one realizes that it is also the theme to the Soap Opera The Young And The Restless, and that Mancini may not have even done the original song in the first place), but the implications of it was too fun to ignore. So...I decided to make a picture of Robyn Starling as a gymnast.
